Byju's App Delisted from Google Playstore: Non-Payment to AWS

On May 26, 2025, Byju’s flagship Learning app was removed from the Google Play Store due to unpaid invoices to Amazon Web Services (AWS). While the core app is currently unavailable on Android devices, it remains live on the Apple App Store. Users can still access Byju’s Premium Learning and Exam Prep apps on Google Play without interruption. Rediff

According to sources, AWS has been seeking payment from Think and Learn Pvt. Ltd. — the entity behind Byju’s — since April 2024. The company entered insolvency proceedings earlier this year, placing an Insolvency Resolution Professional (IRP), Shailendra Ajmera, in charge of settling outstanding debts. An email request to Mr. Ajmera regarding the AWS balance reportedly went unanswered. Rediff

An AWS spokesperson stated that the cloud provider “has been working with Think and Learn Private Limited since April 2024 to resolve its outstanding AWS account balance” and expressed hope for a swift resolution. However, they declined to comment on actions taken by other technology platforms. Rediff

Byju’s Learning app offers comprehensive content for students from grades 4 to 12, covering mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and social studies, alongside preparation modules for competitive exams like JEE, NEET, and IAS. The delisting affects only the Android version; iOS users continue to enjoy uninterrupted access. Rediff

Meanwhile, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has initiated insolvency hearings against Byju’s following appeals by investors and the lender-authorised Glas Trust. The outcome of these proceedings will determine the company’s ability to clear its AWS dues and restore full service on Google Play. Rediff
